U.S. Naturalization is the process by which a U.S. Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) applies to become a U.S. Citizen. To be eligible, applicants generally must meet the following requirements:

- Age: be at least 18 years old
- Residency: maintain lawful permanent residency status for typically 3 or 5 years, depending on circumstances. During that time, applicants must have been physically present in the U.S. for at least half of the total time period prior to applying.
- Good Moral Character: demonstrate good moral character as defined by U.S. immigration law
- English Language: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak basic English (with some exceptions)
- Civics Exam: pass a civics exam on U.S. history and government. Exemptions or accommodations exist for certain applicants.
- Oath Ceremony: An applicant becomes a U.S. Citizen upon application approval and completion of the oath ceremony.
